Homes for Sale in Capitola CA

Capitola is a quaint seaside village located across the freeway from Soquel and is in between Live Oak and Aptos. Capitola also has a population close to 10,000 and became Santa Cruz County’s third of four total incorporated cities in 1949. Capitola’s wharf has been in operation since the 1850’s and was used to transfer lumber from the interior to ships at sea. In the 1880’s Capitola became a resort town and included a 160-room hotel, hot salt-water baths, and trolley service from Santa Cruz. The Capitola Esplanade and Beach area has many shops and restaurants and is a very popular tourist attraction. The village is very picturesque with the railroad trestle crossing over the river, the colorful Venetian cottages lining the sand, and the rock cliffs on both sides of the beach. Capitola is approximately in the center of Santa Cruz County and more or less faces directly south towards Monterey and Pacific Grove. East Cliff Drive from Live Oak follows the cliff and leads to Capitola and passes through Pleasure Point, a hot surf spot, and turns into Opal Cliff Drive at 41st Avenue. Opal Cliffs includes many beautiful homes, some of which sit directly on the cliffs overlooking the bay. Another popular Capitola neighborhood is appropriately dubbed as the “Jewel Box” and includes homes located on streets such as Topaz, Crystal, and Emerald. Opal Cliff Drive turns into Cliff Drive and this drops down into the Village area. Popular Capitola restaurants include Shadowbrook, which is perched along the river and has an iconic cable car down to the restaurant and Paradise Bar and Grill on the Esplanade overlooking the beach and river. Capitola is also one of the main business centers of Santa Cruz and 41st Avenue is the main thoroughfare and includes the indoor Capitola Mall. Capitola-by-the-Sea is home to many popular festivals and events including the Capitola Art and Wine Festival, the Begonia Festival, and the Capitola Rods and Classic Car Show. Capitola also has summer twilight concerts on the sand every Wednesday night. New Brighton State Beach is another popular Capitola Beach and includes a campground right on the cliff. A small stretch of sand at New Brighton State Beach is known as Pot Belly Beach and it has a stretch of about 20 beach homes right on the sand. The street these homes are located on is Pot Belly Beach Road and it is a small, gated beach home community.
